Abstract

The huge potential of zakat in Indonesia has become one of the main instruments in reducing inequality and poverty, but its management is still not optimal. This research aims to identify in depth the role and scheme of blockchain technology that focuses on the efficiency of managing zakat fitrah and mal. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with literature study as the data collection technique, while the type of data used is secondary data. The results of this study indicate a significant role of blockchain in the management of zakat fitrah and mal, where muzakki can see the series of processes from collecting to distributing zakat without involving many intermediaries such as traditional zakat management, with this operational cost can be cut to 5% which originally cost 10%, this cost cutting will increase the amount of funds to be distributed, management time becomes short, public trust and satisfaction increase. There are at least 3 institutions that implement it, such as Desto Fintech, Blossom Finance, and Baitul Mal Hidayatullah. With this research, it is hoped that it can be useful for all zakat stakeholders in an effort to optimise better, transparent and efficient zakat management.
