Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic finance in supporting green economic development in Indonesia. Given the increasing global concern over environmental issues, Islamic finance offers an alternative financial system that aligns with sustainable development goals, balancing economic, social, and environmental priorities. The study focuses on the potential of Islamic financial products, like green sukuk, to fund eco-friendly projects and examines the challenges faced in implementing sustainable Islamic finance practices. Key obstacles include limited public awareness, insufficient financial infrastructure for green investment, and regulatory gaps hindering the development of sustainable financial products. The research analyzes data from literature reviews, aiming to uncover themes and perspectives on Islamic finance’s contributions to a green economy. The findings reveal that Islamic finance can significantly contribute to environmental sustainability through funding mechanisms tailored for green initiatives. However, addressing the challenges will require enhanced regulations, increased public education, and collaboration between financial institutions and government bodies. This study offers insights for policymakers, industry players, and academics, emphasizing the need for synergy between Islamic finance and sustainable development to foster a more environmentally conscious future for Indonesia.
